Google AdWords Keyword Planner Just Launched

Yesterday Google officially launched its new tool, AdWords Keyword Planner, to help create better AdWords campaigns. Keyword Planner will replace our favorite Google Keyword Tool and AdWords Traffic Estimator.

You should learn to use this tool even if you never used Keyword Tool or Traffic Estimator and do not plan to use Google ads. Understanding search terms is important because that tells you what words your potential customers use to describe yours and similar businesses so that you can tweak your marketing and sales content accordingly.

Here are a couple of things you should know about Google AdWords Keyword Planner:

  • Google Keyword Tool was available as an independent tool but you need to have the AdWords account to use Keyword Planner. Don’t worry, its still free, and you can create your AdWords account if you don’t have one already.
  • Average search volume data that will show up in Keyword Planner will be higher as compared to the exact match search volume data you got with Keyword Tool. That’s because now it will show you the average number of searches for a keyword idea on all devices (desktop and laptop computers, tablets, and mobile phones).
  • Keyword Tool and Traffic Estimator will no longer will be available in the future (probably in 60 to 90 days).

If you have used Google AdWords then you will probably welcome this change because Keyword Planner has more options for planning your ad campaigns and combines two powerful tools into one.
